"As a Lactation Consultant, I see a lot of women who experience painful nipples as a result of vasospasm. I also see many women with sore and cracked nipples, which are further aggravated by the removal of ordinary breast pads that stick to their nipples.
I have found that the Lanowool breast pads with lanolin prevent nipples sticking, which helps heal the nipples more effectively. The pads are also brilliant for vasospasm as they provide consistent warmth to the nipple. I have trialed the Lanowool breast pads with my own patients and they have helped reduce these symptoms immensely. Lanowool pads are reusable which makes them more cost effective than disposable pads."   Lynne Hall, Lactation Consultant, Sydney

“During my previous pregnancy I experienced very sore nipples. At the time I was using disposable breast pads and they kept sticking (not to mention how painful it was when I had to take the pads off!) A friend recommended that I use Lanowool Breast Pads for this pregnancy and what a difference. I started using them immediately in the hospital and have had a much better experience with no sore or cracked nipples at all. An added bonus is that I am not buying disposable pads which means I am saving money and helping the environment at the same time!”   Nicole (Mother of two, Sydney)

FAQ

How many pairs do I need?
For average milk supply, you will be fine with one pair. For a larger supply of milk and for leakage, you will need two pairs. Using the pads as 'doubles' works well during the night and for extra-absorbency in general.

Which size do I need?
Regular (12 cm diameter) or Large (15 cm diameter). Size regular/12 cm diameter for shirt size 8-14 when not pregnant. For fuller-breasted women size 16 and up, you will need size large (15 cm diameter).

How often do I need to wash Lanowool® breastfeeding pads?
Handwash with a mild wool soap, rinsing the pads under running lukewarm water. Rinse the pads initially every 1-2 days when you have a lot of milk. After the milk has settled, it is recommended that you rinse the pads every 1-2 weeks. Allow 5% shrinkage. Rinse the pads lightly before the first use.

Can mothers that are wool-sensitive use Lanowool® breastfeeding pads and can they become too hot to wear?
The pads are made of a very fine micron merino wool and the skin does not sense these fibers as scratchy. Wool is a natural product that insulates your body temperature. Wool, therefore, will never become too hot to wear.

What does it mean 'treated with purified lanolin'?
Lanolin is a lipid that nature has designed to protect skin. The chemical and physical properties of lanolin are able to imitate many of the functions normally carried out by human skin lipids. Lanowool® breastfeeding pads are treated with a purified lanolin that complies with the requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph.Eur.).
Pesticide Residue Limits for Lanolin used < 1 ppm and a free lanolin alcohol limit of 3% which is an indicator of hypoallergenicity i.e. no risk of allergy to baby or mother.

How long can I use Lanowool® breastfeeding pads?
Depending on milk supply, 24 hours a day for a breastfeeding period of up to 12 months. With more milk absorption from heavy leaking, up to 4-8 hours. For excessive leaking, two pairs or more are recommended.
